A Bit About Us

For as long as I can remember, I have been obsessed with candles. From melting down remnants of my mom's old candles to make new "emergency" candles, to covering every flat surface of my childhood bedroom with tea lights for the 'ambiance' to play numerous rounds of Clock (my grandma was really into Solitare and taught us well) on my bed while Stevie Nicks crooned in the background.

As I got older, my preferences became a little more discerning, favoring quality over quantity. But let's be honest, I still love the vibe of a room lit solely by candlelight.

I still struggled to find the perfect candle. One that scented the room even without being lit, but not so overpowering that you felt like your nose was the thing that's on fire. Not to mention those candles that smell amazing in the store, only for the scent to become a distant memory by the time is halfway gone.

Moreover, I wanted something beautiful. Something that became a part of the decor of my house. Something that could be used and reused, and used again.

I started looking for the kind of candles that I would really love to buy for myself. And couldn't find any. Since I have the dreaded 'how hard could it be' gene, I started researching real, honest-to-goodness candle making.

Onto the most important part - the bestest friend I never asked for, but am continuously thankful for. She has been by my side for the better part of the last 25 years, and has never faltered in believing in me, supporting me, or telling me it's not worth the effort of having to dispose of the body (seriously though, thank you for talking me off the ledge more than a handful of times).

When I told her "I think I want to try making candles", her immediate response was "YES". And here we are.

So in an ode to our eternal friendship (we have matching tattoos, bitch, we're stuck together forever) and my undying obsession with astrology, I dubbed this new adventure Sea Goat & Maiden Apotheca. Because no matter what we do, we're in it together.
